Excitation Spectrum and Superstripes: The Case of Spin-orbit Coupled BECs
Sandro Stringari, Univ. Trento & KITP

I will discuss (30 min) the predictions for the excitation spectrum of a spinor BEC with spin orbit coupling, recently obtained in Trento. Main features concern:

  1. Occurrence of a roton structure in the plane wave phase, providing the onset of the transition to the stripe phase;
  2. Emergence of two gapless bands and divergent behavior of the static structure factor in the stripe phase.
Discussions may concern the analogies with supersolid effects exhibited by other systems, including dipolar molecular gases.
