test the BKL conjecture that each spatial point of an inhomogeneous cosmology
evolves toward the singularity as a separate universe which is either AVTD
or Mixmaster. |

key is the behavior of (essentially) the amplitude P of the + polarization
of gravitational waves. In a suitably chosen slicing, it asymptotically
satisfies a linear wave equation: |
