Mechanism Discussion
Discussion Leader-Robert Laughlin (Stanford Univ.)
Phil Anderson (Princeton Univ.); Steve Kivelson (UC Los Angeles); Partick Lee (MIT); David Pines (Univ. Illinois); Doug Scalapino (UC Santa Barbara);

How does Tc vary with the different materials parameters or with different classes of materials? What is the difference between the Hg 3-layer material under pressure (Tc~160K) and the single layer BSCCO material with Tc~10K?

Under what circumstances is the notion of condensation energy (or kinetic energy gain or potential energy gain) well-defined and useful experimentally or theoretically?

What do we know about the frequency dependence of the gap and what can this tell us about the mechanism?

Are there AF orbital currents and what role do they play in the mechanism?

What microscopic models lead to Z_2 gauge theories?

An experimental test of the Z_2 gauge theory has recently been proposed. What tests can one invision for SO(5), stripes, AF orbital currents, spin-fluctuation exchange, etc. theories?
