Several experimental groups are now working with mixtures of alkali-metal atoms and closed-shell atoms such as Sr or Yb, with the goal of forming molecules in doublet-Sigma states. We have shown that such systems can have interspecies Feshbach resonances due to short-range coupling between hyperfine states due to the dependence of the hyperfine coupling on the internuclear distance [PRL 105, 153201 (2010)]. However, these resonances mostly occur at high fields (>1000 G) and are very narrow. In this talk I will explore the factors that determine the positions and widths and the circumstances under which magnetoassociation to form molecules is likely to be possible.
