Dwarfs, Reionization, and Accretion Around Giant Ellipticals
Aaron J Romanowsky (UCSC, UCO)

We present chemodynamical studies of globular cluster (GC) systems in the halos of nearby giant elliptical galaxies, with several interesting applications. (1) We use metal-poor GCs to tag primordial dark matter subhalos and infer the epoch of reionization, including galaxy-to-galaxy variations. (2) We infer the presence of substructures in position-velocity phase-space and thereby trace recent accretion events. (3) We expand the inventory of ultra-compact dwarfs around M87 and connect these to the subhalo mass function.
