Future Studies of the Intracluster Medium via the SZ Effect with MUSIC

MUSIC is a new multi-color (sub)millimeter camera scheduled to be commissioned at the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory (CSO) in the fall of 2011. It is simultaneously sensitive to four bands at 150, 225, 290, and 345 GHz, and has a 14 arcminute field of view, large enough to fully cover galaxy clusters at moderate to high redshifts (z > 0.3). We present the expected performance and envisioned science programs for MUSIC with regards to pointed observations of galaxy clusters via the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect. We plan to make deep observations of ~20 well studied, massive clusters with the aim of detecting non-thermal pressure support at the cluster outskirts and deviations from hydrostatic equilibrium, as well as measuring the scaling relations between SZ and X-ray, optical, and lensing observables. We also plan to follow-up 250 clusters from the Planck Cluster Catalog with the aim of calibrating the Y-M scaling relation, examining its evolution with redshift, and quantifying the bias and scatter in the PCC selection function due to SZ morphology.
