There are no true bound states in the vortex core of a pure d$_{x^2-y^2}$ superconductor that would be analogous to the Caroli-deGennes-Matricon states in s-wave superconductors. While there are states which are strongly peaked at the core they all appear to have power law tails "leaking" out along nodal directions and are extended as measured by the "participation ratio" criterion. An admixture of an id$_{xy}$ component leads to a finite gap and to true bound states leading to the STM tunneling conductance which is more consistent with what is observed experimentally.
