The temperature dependence of the zero-field mean free path (mfp) l(T) in BZO-grown YBCO (y = 6.993) extracted from the weak-field Hall conductivity kxy^0/B, using two methods. In method 1 (solid symbols), the electronic heat capacity is used to fix the qp population. In method 2 (open symbols), the Hall angle is extracted from the ratio kxy/kxx^e, where kxx^e is the electronic part of the measured kxx values. The equivalent weak-field Hall angle \theta/B is shown on the right scale. The expanded scale (x 10) shows that the increase in l (T) starts quite abruptly just below Tc. This behavior is inconsistent with the scattering rate of nodal qp deduced from a recent photoemission expteriment (Valla et al. Science, 1999). [Y. Zhang et al., cond-mat/00xxxx].
