The temperature dependence of the anomalous Nernst coefficient v-vN (measured relative to the normal-state value vN) in 5 crystals of LSCO (0.05, 0.07, 0.10 and 0.17). As T increases above Tc, the vortex Nernst signal is expected to fall steeply to zero (as observed in optimally doped YBCO). In LSCO, however, the Nernst signal falls rather slowly, asymptoting to the normal- state value above 100 K. Note that the onset temperature (defined operationally as that at which the anomalous signal exceeds the experimental resolution of 2 nV/KT) increases as x decreases. The sample x = 0.05 is especially interesting. The anomalous signal extends to 150 K even though Tc is nominally zero (below 4 K).
